About Kawant Ger Mela :
A tribal non-fair held in kavant every year with people from home and abroad coming to the fair
The fair keeps the social life of the tribals throbbing
The dances and music performed by the tribes are of great importance in this fair
Like the Garasia tribes of North Gujarat, the Rathwa tribes of East Gujarat enjoy music, dance, colorful costumes and attractive jewelery. About 100 km from Vadodara. The fair is held on the third day after Holi in Chhotaudepur, the hometown of the distant Rathwa tribes, i.e. in the village of Kwant on the border of Madhya Pradesh at the edge of Panchmahal. Tribals from twenty five surrounding villages including kavant and Madhya Pradesh as well as Maharashtra come to enjoy the fair wearing colorful clothes. At the same time, people from many countries also come to this fair to enjoy the tribal culture.
The tribesmen dance to the beat of drums
The Rathwa tribesmen are skilled archers. Rathvas live in houses made of grass, bamboo, leaves and mud in the forest covered with forests. Now they are using their own local clay tiles. These people have inscriptions on the earthen walls. After the depiction of this pithora, they believe that through this depiction, God has settled in their house. A similar picture is made by men at the fair with white dots all over their bodies. He also wears peacock feathers, a colorful bamboo hat and a large necklace that can be tied around the oxen's neck. Then he dances to the beat of the drums. Thus, at the time of dance, the sound of a uniformly rhythmic roar is melodious.
This tribal fair also has marital ties that keep the social life throbbing. During the fair, the Rathva tribesmen place earthen horses and other goddesses at the shrine of the deity outside the village, believing that they have pleased the deity. Like every tribal fair, this festival also has a special significance of music and dance. The scene of the fair is captivating with musical instruments like pava, dhol, tur and piho. The colorful costumes and beautiful ornaments of the tribes involved in the fair set them apart from others. Quant's Gerno Fair is different from other tribal fairs but preserves and highlights the culture.
