About Bhagoriya 2022
The fun-filled festival of tribal culture Bhagoria will start from March 11 and will continue till March 17. During this, fairs will be held at many places of MP state. After being closed for 9 months due to corona, the weekly haat bazaar has now returned to its old form.
Why is celebrated
From ancient times, this fair seems to be in the haat bazaars which come 7 days before Holi. Literary writer Gumji Bhai Singod says that it is directly related to the Holi festival. In the princely period, the king and the people used to gather in these haat bazaars to celebrate the joys of Holi. Initially they were called Gulalia Haat, which over time turned into Toharia Haat and then Bhagoria Mela. The story is also that Bhagor was devastated due to Mataji's curse. When the village was settled after pleasing the Goddess, all the villagers got together and celebrated there before Holi. Later this tradition turned into a festival which started from Bhagor. Hence the name Bhagoria.
What happens at Bhagoria fair
Bhagoria fairs are held for 7 days at different places along with Haat Bazaar. Young men and women arrive at the fairs dancing and singing with all their musical instruments while making up. No matter how far the tribals have gone to earn from their land, they come to the village for Bhagoria. The fair has swings, chakris and various food items
What has changed
The main change in the cultural festival over time is that the costumes have changed now. Young men are more visible in jeans and T-shirts. Instead of being a part of rural Bhagoria, they now prefer to be spectators, as the new generation does not like to do public dance at the fair site.
This time it's special
Panchayat elections are just ahead. Rivalry is also in full swing. The festival will be used to connect with the villagers politically. Every contender will show their activism in the fairs with the supporters. Not celebrating for a long time because of Corona. Haats were closed till the market. Now back to its original form. In this case, this time the joy of Bhagoria festival will be in full swing, emerging from the Corona period.
